Volunteer Firefighter

APPLICANTS

Applicants for the position of volunteer member must complete a District application and accompany it with copies of the following documents:

  • * High school diploma or GED* A valid Missouri driver's license* A Social Security card * Copies of any Fire Service/EMS certificates/licenses
  • Applicants must also submit to and pass a background check.
  • Firefighter I certification by the Missouri Division of Fire Safety
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operations Certification by the Missour Division of Fire Safety
  • Applicants who are accepted as probationary volunteer members shall be notified in writing as to the scheduled starting date for their Orientation Course. Probationary volunteer members shall serve a maximum of a fifteen month probationary period with the District.

PROBATIONARY VOLUNTEER MEMBER

Upon appointment to probationary volunteer member status, these personnel shall be scheduled to attend the District's Orientation Course, usually held in July of each year. Included in this course shall be classes covering, but not limited to, the following subjects: District Organization & Structure, District Maps & Streets, District Public Relations, and District Apparatus Familiarization.

Upon successful completion of the Orientation Course, the probationary volunteer member shall be issued a full set of personal protective clothing, a District t-shirt or sweatshirt, and an accountability tag.

Upon successful completion of the Orientation Course, the probationary volunteer member who already possesses certification at no less than the Firefighter I level, shall, within fourteen months:

Serve no less than twelve (12) hours of scheduled station time each month* Attend no less than four District training sessions each month* Be given, at District expense with his/her approval, the Hepatitis B series ofvaccinations and a Tuberculosis test

* Pass a written examination over the District's Policies and Guidelines.

VOLUNTEER MEMBER

All volunteer members of Sni Valley must earn a minimum number of points each month to maintain their membership with the District. Volunteer members who fail to earn the required number of hours in any one month will have their membership terminated, unless the Assistant Chief believes the circumstances warrant a different outcome.

All volunteer members shall serve no less than twelve (12) hours of pre-scheduled station time each month and attend no less than four training sessions each month.

All volunteer members shall pre-schedule their station time no less than two weeks in advance.

Volunteer members who have successfully completed their probationary period must serve no less than one full calendar year before they will be eligible to attend any outside training session, workshop, etc., at District expense.

WORK-STUDY PROGRAM

Upon completion of no less than one calendar year of service to the District, a volunteer member may submit a letter of application to the uniformed officers of the District requesting permission to attend one of the following courses of study at District expense:

* State of Missouri EMT-B
* State of Missouri EMT-P
