APPLICANTS

Applicants for the position of volunteer member must complete a District application and accompany it with copies of the following documents:

* High school diploma or GED* A valid Missouri driver's license* A Social Security card * Copies of any Fire Service/EMS certificates/licenses

Applicants must also submit to and pass a background check.

Applicants who are accepted as probationary volunteer members shall be notified in writing as to the scheduled starting date for their Orientation Course. Probationary volunteer members shall serve a maximum of a fifteen month probationary period with the District.

PROBATIONARY VOLUNTEER MEMBER

Upon appointment to probationary volunteer member status, these personnel shall be scheduled to attend the District's Orientation Course, usually held in July of each year. Included in this course shall be classes covering, but not limited to, the following subjects: District Organization & Structure, District Maps & Streets, District Public Relations, and District Apparatus Familiarization.

Upon successful completion of the Orientation Course, the probationary volunteer member shall be issued a full set of personal protective clothing, a District t-shirt or sweatshirt, and an accountability tag.

Upon successful completion of the Orientation Course, the non-certified probationary volunteer member shall, within fourteen months:

* Successfully enroll and complete to certification a recognized Firefighter I or FirefighterI and II certification course

* Successfully enroll in and complete a hazardous materials Operations level course* Serve no less than twelve (12) hours of scheduled station time each month* Pass a written examination over the District's Policies and Guidelines* Be given, at District expense with his/her approval, the Hepatitis B series of vaccinations and a Tuberculosis test.

While enrolled and participating in a recognized Firefighter certification course, the probationary volunteer member shall not be required to attend District training sessions. Non-certified probationary volunteer members shall not make entry into a working structure fire.

Upon successful completion of the Orientation Course, the probationary volunteer member who already possesses certification at no less than the Firefighter I level, shall, within fourteen months:

* Successfully enroll in and complete a hazardous materials Operations level course* Serve no less than twelve (12) hours of scheduled station time each month* Attend no less than four District training sessions each month* Be given, at District expense with his/her approval, the Hepatitis B series ofvaccinations and a Tuberculosis test

* Pass a written examination over the District's Policies and Guidelines.

VOLUNTEER MEMBER

All volunteer members of Sni Valley must earn a minimum number of points each month to maintain their membership with the District. Volunteer members who fail to earn the required number of hours in any one month will have their membership terminated, unless the Assistant Chief believes the circumstances warrant a different outcome.

All volunteer members shall serve no less than twelve (12) hours of pre-scheduled station time each month and attend no less than four training sessions each month.

All volunteer members shall pre-schedule their station time no less than two weeks in advance.

Volunteer members who have successfully completed their probationary period must serve no less than one full calendar year before they will be eligible to attend any outside training session, workshop, etc., at District expense.

WORK-STUDY PROGRAM

Upon completion of no less than one calendar year of service to the District, a volunteer member may submit a letter of application to the uniformed officers of the District requesting permission to attend one of the following courses of study at District expense:

* State of Missouri EMT-B * State of Missouri EMT-P

The uniformed officers of the District shall review each letter of application on a case by case basis, along with the applicant's personnel and training files, attendance record, etc. After reviewing the applicant's service record and letter, the uniformed officers of the District will forward these to the District Board of Directors along with their recommendations. The Board of Directors shall review the letter of application, the officer's recommendations, the current financial status of the District, etc., and decide whether or not to pay the applicant's tuition for the selected course.

If the Board of Directors elects to pay the applicant's tuition for the selected course, a contract will be drawn up between the District and the volunteer member whereby the member agrees to: (1) continue to serve the District by scheduling no less than twelve (12) hours of station time each month during his/her participation in the selected course, (2) successfully complete the entire course of study, as well as the licensing examination process for that level of training, within no more than twenty-four calendar months following the start of the course.

Said contract shall also state that upon obtaining licensure, the applicant shall repay the District by either:

(a) serving no less than 1,104 hours of service (in increments of no less than 48 hours per month) during the next eighteen consecutive calendar months OR

(b) presenting the District with a certified check for the full amount of the course's tuition within thirty calendar days. Should the applicant begin the repayment process by serving time to the District and later be unable to continue, he/she agrees to repay the District with a certified check in an amount determined by pro-rata calculation for the unserved time. This financial repayment must be made within thirty calendar days of the end of any month in which the applicant does not serve a minimum of forty-eight repayment hours to the District.

Said contract shall also state that:

(a) should the applicant fail to complete the selected course of study OR,

(b) fail to obtain licensure for that level of training covered by the course,

the applicant agrees to present the District with a certified check for the full amount of the course's tuition within thirty calendar days of the date the applicant dropped the course or received a final notice of failure to achieve licensure.
